Divine Essentials Virtual Tutoring Service, founded by Talladega, AL native Ivy Patterson, and the McKinney-Green Student Aid Foundation, founded by Fatonya McKinney- Green partnered to give a tutoring scholarship to a deserving youth named Joy Merchant, a resident of Trussville, AL. Joy Merchant is a high school senior who attends Hewitt-Trussville High School and was awarded the scholarship during the month of March 2021. The scholarship covers 3 months of tutorial services twice a week, along with help writing college admissions essays. The idea was the brainchild of Ms. Fatonya Mckinney-Green, and was presented to Ms. Ivy Patterson as a way to help build up the youth.
“When Ms. Green presented the idea of giving a tutorial scholarship to a high school senior, I was ecstatic!” says Ms. Patterson. “I just knew that this would be a good opportunity for a deserving youth.”
